Five-spice is always a life saver in the kitchen, especially if you’re into Asian food. It brings more flavors to your dishes and smells absolutely amazing while cooking. Need I say more? I don’t think so. So this is my go-to recipe whenever I feel lazy and all I wanna do is laying on my comfy bed and, well, just… laying on it ^^: pan-fried or grilled meat (chicken or pork will work the best) with five-spice marinade (you know that I love creating marinades, “marinade freak”?). And the marinade is really simple and basic, you can choose between those two options:
1. chopped shallots, minced garlic, honey (or sugar), fish sauce and five-spice
2. chopped shallots, minced garlic, oyster sauce and five-spice
Both are great but personally, I think the first option goes better with chicken and the other one will match perfectly with pork. The meat should be well soaked in the marinade for at least 2-3 hours before cooking, and if you have time, feel free to leave it overnight in the fridge, your dish will be even more flavorful 😉
Since the flavor of the five-spice is quite strong, simple and light veggie salad will balance it out, trust me, you won’t want any oily or fatty side dish with this, that will be more like a torture than a delicious meal 😉
